Homecoming Happenings—Friday, September 15
This week is homecoming at O’Gorman High School.  Most of our week will remain the same, however, there will be a few items of note on Friday, September 15–the day of the Homecoming football game (vs. Sioux Falls Lincoln at 5:00 p.m.).

  • OGJH will not be giving out any daily homework on Friday, September 15.  This is done in order to avoid any lost items (book bags, books, etc.) from the time school gets out until the football game. We encourage students to leave their backpacks in the school for the weekend if they do not have any long-term assignments that are due. It is important to know that the school will not be unlocked after the game.
  • Friday, September 15 is a Spirit Wear Day. Students will be allowed to dress in their favorite O’Gorman and/or blue/white shirt/top. Jeans and shorts are allowed. All dress down rules apply: No frayed, tattered or torn clothing;  Shorts length is appropriate (In determining appropriate length, a student may hold their arms at their sides; the length of the garment must be at least to the bottom of the student’s longest finger);  No spandex workout pants (yoga pants) or leggings.
  • We will be having a Homecoming Pre-game Celebration for the OGJH students from 3:15-4:30 in the OGJH gymnasium.  This will be a place for the students to socialize prior to the football game.  Pizza from the Pizza Ranch will be available for purchase for $1.00 per slice. Also, soda and water will be sold for $1.00. Student ID’s cannot be used to purchase these items. A special thanks to the parents who have agreed to help chaperone this activity.  If you are interested in helping or would like to donate pop for the event, please contact Carol in the office. We will have a sign in sheet at the Homecoming Pre-game Celebration if you would like to check if your child did or did not attend.

Uniform Jackets
Uniform jackets are expected to arrive in the coming week. Upon arrival, we will be giving these to the students who ordered them. The uniform jackets were ordered through our back-to-school mailing in August.

Athletic Bus Reminders
For games not on the O’Gorman Campus, an athletic bus will take students to a competition/game, but a parent must pick up the student after the event. The only exception is football (due to the equipment)—the bus takes the students both ways.  After a football game, the students must be picked up at OGJH.

First Quarter Mid-Terms
We will be sending mid-term reports home with your child NEXT Thursday. There will be a sticker in your child’s planner that you will be expected to sign to show that you have seen their mid-term report.

School Pictures
Your child received a picture packet last Friday. Picture re-takes will take place on the morning of Wednesday, September 27. If your child is choosing to do a re-take, they may dress-down for the picture, but will be required to be in uniform for the remaining part of the day. If your child was present on the original picture day and they want a new picture, please have them return the original picture packet to school on the 27th.

Calendar Notifications
A reminder that our calendar format will allow our families to sign up/register for notifications for each activity.  The notifications can be sent to you via email, text or both. You get to decide this once you sign up. Additionally, anytime there is a change of times, location, or cancellation for the activity you have signed up for, you will automatically be notified. Click here to access our calendar and go to the “Notify Me” section to begin this process.

Attendance Matters at OGJH
Why is attendance important?
***If students fall behind and are continuously struggling to catch up, this may diminish their confidence and attitude towards learning.
***Arriving to school tardy is a disruption to the entire class, as well as your child’s school routine.
What can parents do?
***Don’t give up, reward good behavior and take it one day at a time.
***Provide your child plenty of time to get ready for school.
