Up with People
A dress down day will be given on Monday, September 17, to any student who presents a ticket stub (to their homeroom teacher) from one of the two Up with People shows on Sunday, September 16. All ticket sales benefit the Living Stones Endowment which supports staff salaries in the school system.
Next week is homecoming at O’Gorman High School. Most of our week will remain the same, however, there will be a few items of note on Friday, September 21–the day of the Homecoming football game (vs. Rapid City Central at 5:00 p.m.).
OGJH will not be giving out any daily homework on Friday, September 21. This is done in order to avoid any lost items (book bags, books, etc.) from the time school gets out until the football game. We encourage students to leave their backpacks in the school for the weekend if they do not have any long-term assignments that are due. It is important to know that the school will not be unlocked after the game.
Friday, September 21 is a Spirit Wear Day. Students will be allowed to dress in their favorite O’Gorman and/or blue/white shirt/top. Jeans and shorts are allowed. All dress down rules apply: No frayed, tattered or torn clothing; Shorts length is appropriate (In determining appropriate length, a student may hold their arms at their sides; the length of the garment must be at least to the bottom of the student’s longest finger); No spandex workout pants (yoga pants) or leggings.
We will be having a Homecoming Pre-game Celebration for the OGJH students from 3:15-4:30 in the OGJH gymnasium. This will be a place for the students to socialize prior to the football game. Pizza from the Pizza Ranch will be available for purchase for $1.00 per slice. Also, soda and bottled water will be sold for $1.00. Student ID’s cannot be used to purchase these items. A special thanks to the parents who have agreed to help chaperone this activity. We are still in need of parent volunteers for this. If you are interested in helping or would like to donate pop for the event, please contact Carol in the office. We will have a sign in sheet at the Homecoming Pre-game Celebration if you would like to check if your child did or did not attend.
First Quarter Mid-Terms
We will be sending mid-term reports home with your child NEXT Thursday (September 20). There will be a sticker in your child’s planner that you will be expected to sign to show that you have seen their mid-term report.
8th Grade Health Screenings
The annual 8th grade health screening will take place on Tuesday, September 25 during the school day. Nurses from the University of Sioux Falls will be performing the tests. The following areas will be screened: vision, blood pressure, glands, and scoliosis. Any irregularities that are found will be reported to parents.
Your child will receive their school pictures and new ID’s soon. Picture re-takes will take place on the morning of Wednesday, September 26. If your child is choosing to do a re-take, they may dress-down for the picture, but will be required to be in uniform for the remaining part of the day. If your child was present on the original picture day and they want a new picture, please have them return the original picture packet to school on the 26th.
